Spring forward...

posted 03/09/2008

We did it.  Did you?

We got all the clocks adjusted and made it out the door in plenty of time for meeting, but really, I would rather not have this DST stuff to deal with.  I can get up early all on my own.

 Mountain Ranch

It has been absolutely beautiful here all weekend. We went up to Mountain Ranch yesterday and the stretch of road with all the daffodils is in bloom.  We have never actually calculated it, but it seems like it's at least a mile long and it goes on down to just before town.  It has been warm lately, and of course since we're getting this "lamb like " entrance of March, all of the fruit trees are blossoming their hearts out.  That always kind of makes me just a tad nervous, because it's not all that unusual to end up with a bunch of winter weather dropped in sometime in March or maybe even as late as April, but oh well!  May as well enjoy the view while we have it and not worry about things you have no control over.

February was rough.

Losing Daisy is still pretty fresh, and there are still "firsts" that I keep experiencing without her.  She's been my close companion for over a decade, so you kind of get used to certain things when you have a house dog.  Like, if you accidentally drop something on the floor during food preparation or a meal - you know you're not likely going to have to sweep it up, because the dog would deal with it for you.  Yesterday in service, we met a couple of dogs and one of them was friendly and wanted pets, so I did my usual, thought about when I got home and I'd tell Daisy "I've got smells!" and she'd come right over and start "reading" my clothing.  Then I remembered she would not be there when I got home.  So, rather than melt down and have to explain to the entire car-group what the heck was wrong, I quickly thought of something else.  That kind of stuff.  I know it was "just a dog" - but she was my sweet girl and we had a bond.  So, I miss her.

MP and Sean are both well.

Sean's still working as a courtesy clerk at the market, but is currently looking in to some online courses thru Cal State Stanislaus so that he can get something better-paying at some point.  He seems to be doing a really good job at the store though, and he takes care of an older sister in our congregation on the weekend.  Well, he goes over to her place and stacks up fire wood for her so it's close and available for her to use with her wood stove.  I think she's had him do some stuff with her computer system too.  She just loves him, and always sends him home with chocolate or cookies or some other treat.  The hummingbirds seem to be increasing again.  I've had a couple of juveniles sharing a feeder recently, of course one of them is older now, and he lost his ability to "share" so he's out there guarding both feeders and chasing everybody off.  It's pretty funny to watch him work so hard to make sure nobody gets to drink.  Of course they usually find a way.

We have also have robins.

 Robin March 2008

Quite a number so far this year.  I guess our neighborhood cat population must be getting lazy, because last year I think I only saw two of them, and there were as many as four out there the other morning.  Like the hummies, they're somewhat curious about humans, so they're a bit easier to catch on camera than other birds, but, sometimes they decide to just fly away and I miss them.  This morning though, there must have been some pretty good bugs in the grass, because they all hung out and just kept an eye on me.

Thanks for stopping by the blog.

We really enjoy it when our friends and family come by and check on the blog.  Please feel free to leave a comment if your browser will allow it.  I know sometimes I had trouble with Firefox with the comments on Blog-city blogs.  Next year I may move the blog over to another server, but for now will keep updating this blog with all the latest and fascinating newsworthy events.  Can anyone ever get too much talk about hummingbirds, or opinions on the Dallas Cowboys?Wink
